What Happens While the Library is closed
Q: Will I have access to any library services?
A: Yes, the Vauxhall Branch (123 Hilton Ave) will be open with expanded hours for books and materials, computers, Wi-Fi, and copiers.
Q: What are the hours for the Vauxhall Branch Library?
A: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10-6, Wednesday 10-8, Friday and Saturday 9-5
Q: Where can I return my books during the closure?
A: Book return boxes from the Main Library have been relocated to 1060 Stuyvesant Ave. You can continue to return books to the Vauxhall Branch as well.
Q: Why are the books I have returned still showing on my library account?
A: While our systems are down we cannot check in any material returned to the Main Library. Once our systems are back up and running all material will be checked back in. We are not charging late fees, so no worries.
Q: Can I still place holds on material?
A: Holds can be placed on material located at the Vauxhall Branch. Existing holds on Main Library material will be honored once we reopen.
Q: How long will the Main Library be closed?
A: Keep checking our website for further updates.
Q: Where will the new interim Library be located?
A: 1060 Stuyvesant Avenue (previously the Family Dollar store)
Q: Will there still be programs at the Library?
A: In person, outdoor programs for children will continue to be held at the Vauxhall Branch (weather permitting). Adult programs will continue on Zoom.
Q: How do I renew my library card, or sign up for a new card?
A: Card expiration dates will be extended, and new cards can be issued at the Vauxhall Branch.
Q: Will curbside service continue at the Stuyvesant Avenue and Vauxhall locations?
A: Curbside service will continue for those that do not wish to come into the building.
Q: Will masks still be required at the Stuyvesant and Vauxhall locations?
Q: Will I still have access to digital resources while the Main Library is closed?
A: Yes! Find all our digital resources here
Q: Can I still check out Museum Passes, Video games, and Chromebooks?
A: While the Main Library is closed, museum passes, video games, and Chromebooks will be available for checkout at the Vauxhall Branch.
Q: Can I check out books at other libraries?
A: Union Public Library cardholders, may borrow from any of the participating libraries listed here https://uplnj.org/borrowing-materials/#mural.
Please call ahead for any borrowing restrictions.
Q: When and where will the new library be built?
A: Construction is expected to take about 2 years, and the new library will be built on the existing site.
