Celebrating Unity through Community Arts – Online via Zoom

Attendees are expected to be on time for all programs. A grace period of 10 minutes will be given to patrons attending a program. Admittance after this arrival time is at the discretion of the library staff.

Programs may be cancelled for a number of reasons, chiefly: severe weather, absence of the presenter, or low registration. Cancelled programs are not automatically rescheduled.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.




Celebrating Unity through Community Arts is a full- day of workshops, performance poetry, including visual arts, readings, writing prompts and more.

Each session is 90 minutes, including time to share with the group. You can participate in all the sessions. There will be breaks throughout the day.


Morning Workshop Times:

9:30-11AM session: Ekphrastic Poetry facilitated by Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal: Participants will be able to understand the concept of ekphrasis and write a poem based on a work of art. Themes: Vivid imagery, metaphor. Materials needed: paper and pen


11:00 AM-12:30PM session: Growing beyond your Comfort Zone facilitated by RescuePoetix

The Facilitator will guide participants through a series of writing exercises to reflect on one comfort zone they are willing to look at, review and see if that comfort zone is still needed or not.

Afternoon Workshop Times:

1-2:30PM: Story of My Safe Space, facilitated by Mwikali Words. The intention is to be creators using our beautiful minds and excellent imagination. This activity will make space for you to create a story of yourself. In this activity, participants will Be architects … of sorts.


2:30-4PM: Dream Diaries facilitated by Lisa “Rubi G.” Ventura

Part I: How to begin a dream writing practice for inner freedom and personal growth.

Part II: Write, discuss, and attempt to interpret a recalled dream to create a visual representation of said dream.

About the Program Facilitator:

RescuePoetix | Susan Justiniano, Paterson born, found her performance voice in Jersey City. She is a self-taught bilingual poet twice honored as Poet Laureate of Jersey City. Her poems are published in print, audio, video, and digital platforms.
